Community Outreach Services, Inc.
History, Governance, Management and Services

Community Outreach Services is a 501C-3 non-profit organization in the
State of Florida.  One of the oldest addiction treatment centers in Central
Florida, we have been providing services in Volusia County for over 38 years.

Originally started in 1970 as a halfway house for men being released from jail
and prison, this endeavor was known as the Cain Offender Halfway House.

In 1973, this organization was incorporated as Community Outreach Services.

At that time services to alcoholics desiring help were phased in to the
organizational mission.  DeLand House, a residential facility for men located at
127 West Howry Avenue in DeLand was established for this purpose.

In 1975, concerned church leaders in West Volusia County began meeting to plan a home

for women who had been incarcerated.  This led to the establishment of My House, Inc. in 1976.

The name "My House" was suggested by a local woman ex-offender who was vitally interested

in the movement to create a home for women.  She felt that this name would make the home

personal to each client.  In 1977 My House, Inc. joined hands with Community Outreach Services

to bring the home for women into being.  My House, Inc. set up the living facilities, largely through

donations from individuals, churches and civic organizations. Community Outreach Services

was the administrator and provided professional services.

In 1978, Community Outreach, Inc. and My House, Inc. were joined through an agreement

by the Board of Directors of each agency and consolidated.  The new agency moved to

442 East New York Avenue in DeLand, and became a co-ed residence, retaining the name

My House.  Community Outreach Services, Inc. leased the former Eastwood Terrace

hotel building to house the combined programs.

In 1988, the current facility at 245 South Amelia Avenue in DeLand was opened
with several modular units on the back of the property to serve as residential
housing.  In 1989, the My House program was expanded to house 26 residents.

In 1991, Community Outreach Services opened its first satellite Outpatient office in Deltona.

In April 2001 a new residential building replaced the modular units.  This
facility houses up to 32 clients.  Community Outreach Services continues
to provide outpatient, prevention and intervention services for families as well
as individuals, and offer home groups for AA and NA members from our treatment program

in our facility.

We have offered several services over the years from two homes we have in
DeLand, including services for women with children.  Currently, we offer transitional housing for

individuals in active recovery coming out of treatment centers and from our community.

We now offer bi-lingual Spanish-English outpatient services at our two locations, DeLand and

Deltona in Volusia County. Our group services in DeLand and Deltona are offered during days,
evenings and on weekends.

With facilities in both DeLand and Deltona, Florida, Community Outreach Services

is the treatment center for alcohol and other drug abuse for West Volusia County.

Community Outreach Services is a Center of Recovery and provides a full continuum of care

including Level 1 Prevention Services, Community Based Intervention Services including Case Management,

Outpatient Services including counseling with families and significant others, Intensive Residential

Treatment (Level 2) and My House, a co-educational Level 3 Residential Treatment program.

Clients at Community Outreach Services, enjoy a seamless transition of services from

prevention to outpatient care through residential treatment to transitional housing and aftercare.

Additionally, clients who have successfully completed treatment receive free "tune-ups"

as they progress through their lives and find the need for "just a bit of counseling or support"

during difficult or stressful moments.
