Providing Education, Outpatient Services,

Residential Treatment, Aftercare,

and Transitional Housing for the

Volusia and Flagler County, Florida area

Residential Services

With facilities in both DeLand and Deltona, Florida, Community Outreach Services

is the treatment center for alcohol and other drug abuse for West Volusia County.

Community Outreach Services is a Center of Recovery and provides a full continuum of care including Level 1 Prevention Services, Community Based Intervention Services including Case Management, Outpatient Services including counseling with families and significant others, Intensive Residential Treatment (Level 2) and “My House,” a co-educational Level 3 Residential Treatment program.

Additionally, we provide Aftercare and offer two Transitional Living residences open to individuals stepping out of our residential treatment facility as well as those transitioning from other providers.

Clients at Community Outreach Services enjoy a seamless transition of services

from prevention to outpatient care through residential treatment to transitional housing

and aftercare.  Additionally, clients who have successfully completed treatment receive

free “tune-ups” as they progress through their lives and find the need for

“just a bit of counseling and support” during difficult or stressful moments.

Community Outreach Services also offers individual and group treatment,

education and support for the families and significant others of our clients

This continuity of care for our residential services, our wrap around community-based

referral system of care, the strong aftercare program coupled with our

recovery management/mentoring approach available in our transitional housing,

and extremely supportive local 12 Step community makes

our Residential Program truly unique in the Volusia/Flagler area.

Because we believe in its effectiveness, every client in our Level 3 Residential facility (My House)

is required to participate in the “evidence-based” Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) Program

as part of their residential treatment protocol. We maintain staff in our residential treatment venues

that are certified to provide this treatment, and provide it to all those whose treatment plan

would indicate it would be beneficial, in addition to our “My House” clients.

No other agency in the area offers Moral Reconation Therapy to their residential population.

Intensive Residential Treatment (IRT):

Clients live in a structured environment with 5 to 7 hours of group therapy each day, 6 days a week

and a 1-hour individual therapy session once a week with their personal counselor.  The IRT phase

lasts for 6 weeks or more dependent on each client's progress and participation in their

individual treatment plans.  All the women in our residential program participate in women's

group therapy and complete a Women’s Addiction Treatment Workbook Series

and all the men participate in men's group therapy and complete the Men’s Addiction

Treatment Workbook Series as part of our “Gender, Addiction, and Wellness” program.

Clients also participate in a structured cognitive behavioral Anger Management program created

by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Life Skills groups and individual counseling are offered throughout the day and into the evening,

as well as structured counseling and support groups.

My House:

Clients live in structured environment, obtain employment and have at least 6 hours of group treatment weekly.  They participate in weekly psychotherapeutic and case management groups, relapse prevention groups, a weekly Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) groups and at least one weekly 1-hour individual therapy with their personal counselor.  Clients’ length of stay is for 16 weeks depending on progress and participation in their individual treatment plans.  All clients attend AA/NA/CA meetings.

2 Transitional Living Houses:

Our Transitional Housing residents live in a less structured environment located at two

home sites in the Deland community.  They continue their employment and improve life

skills that help them become self-sufficient and productive members of society.

Residents are required to attend weekly Transition House meetings with CORS recovery

mentors and a weekly Aftercare Group with their Aftercare counselor.  Transitional

Housing resident's length of stay is for 3 months to over a year dependent upon

their individual needs.  All clients attend at least 4 AA/NA/CA meetings each week and

are monitored to ensure their active participation and

personal responsibility in their own recovery.

There is still a need to improve access to treatment and increase capacity locally

Community Outreach Services’ focus on longer term treatment for clients transitioning

from IRT to My House and then its Transitional Housing increases clients access to

services for our Volusia/Flagler target population as their length of stay increases.

Studies have shown that there is a positive correlation between

this longer client retention and: further reductions in drug/alcohol use;

less involvement with the criminal justice system; better retention in our

and our community’s services supporting recovery; greater access to

other support services; increased stability in family and living conditions;

and improved social connectedness for our target population.

This focus on quality care and client retention in services saves the

communities a large amount of money in the longer term thereby freeing up funds to provide for added capacity in social services.  The quality of life for everyone in the community is enhanced.

Eligibility for residential treatment is determined by Biopsychosocial assessment and the American Society of Addiction Medicine PPC-2R (ASAM) admission criteria.  There is usually a 2 to 4 week wait for admission to Residential treatment.  The list is managed on a first come first served basis with consideration given for urgency and need.

Residential Services accommodations are located at the DeLand Office.
